Heating System Trouble Shooting
If you think something may be wrong with your heating system, this section may help you solve the problem before you need to contact one of our service technicians.
1. Is the electricity supply on? Please check the burner switches-be sure they are in the “on” position. There is a switch near the burner and usually one at the top of the basement stairs. Also check your electrical box-tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse.
2. Check the thermostat. Make sure your dial setting is 10 degrees above room setting.
3. Look at the oil gauge on the fuel storage tank. Check to make sure you have fuel, especially if you do not have automatic delivery service.
4. If you have a steam boiler, be sure the water is showing at least half way up in the gauge. A steam boiler should have a low water cut-off which will shut the burner down when the water level goes too low. The low water cut-off should be flushed once a month to insure proper operation and the boiler refilled to proper level.
5. Press the reset button ONLY ONCE.
If the above checklist doesn’t help you, give us a call and our on-call service technician will call you back immediately and come to your house. If the trouble shooting checklist did help you, let us know in the morning that you were having problems, your heating system may be in need of an annual servicing or there may be another reason the system is having problems-we will check it out.
